Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 already has a rival. ASUS has just unveiled its two new laptops, the Zenbook 14 OLED and the most striking model of both, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED that we will discuss in this article. ASUS is the first folding laptop, a proposal that has mixed the concept of the tablet with the laptop.
At the moment, it is the only 17-inch folding OLED display on the market. We will tell you about the features and technical specifications of this device, without a doubt one of the most dangerous bets of the manufacturer so far.
ASUS is proud to bring its first 17-inch OLED display to the market with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. The panel is provided by the manufacturer BOE, developed in conjunction with ASUS and Intel. Folded, it has a diagonal of 17.3 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1920. Once folded, the size is reduced to 12.5 inches and the resolution is 1920 x 1280.
The body is made of aluminum and stands out mainly for its low thickness; when spreading, only 8.7 mm. The folded figure increases significantly to 31.9 mm. However, this figure is more acceptable for the type of device you have on hand.
This panel is designed to work in six different ways to get the most out of the folding panel. ASUS says it has been tested in over 30,000 opening and closing cycles to ensure durability.
ASUS seems to be mimicking the panel, at least with the information provided by the manufacturer. The response time of the panel is 0.2 milliseconds and above all the ASUS goal is to ensure that the panel does not burn out, one of the endemic ills of OLED technology.
The computer has algorithms capable of detecting the most degrading pixels, improving the current flow through them so that they can continue to display colors accurately.
In addition, when the laptop is idle for more than 30 minutes, a screen saver specifically designed to care for the panel is activated, reducing the chance of burning.
The processor chosen by ASUS is the latest generation Intel Core, with an I7-1250U, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The battery is 75 Wh and has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. USB-A and Ethernet ports are expected, although ASUS has not specified all ports.
The laptop sound is signed by Harman Kardon, is compatible with Dolby Vision Atmos, and has a four-speaker system to output stereo sound. It also has interesting technologies, such as a sensor on the front, capable of detecting ambient light to adjust the color and temperature of the screen in real time.
