Alastria Announces Blockchain Awards

Alastria, a platform for the development of public permissioned blockchain platforms and blockchain technology, has announced the five winning projects of the Blockchain Awards 2024. Metrovacesa, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Onyze, Xpander by Teknia and Blue Room Innovation have received the awards. The main actors in the blockchain ecosystem also participated in the awards ceremony.

The event was closed by Ignacio Azorín González, Director of Digital Strategy of the Community of Madrid, and the opening speech was given by Miguel Ángel Domínguez, President of Alastria. The master of ceremonies for the awards was Javier Molina, a disseminator and expert in digital assets.

This year, the awards were divided into five categories: Web3, Decentralized Digital Identity, Tokenization and Digital Assets, Industrial Uses and Sustainability. In total, 18 projects were finalists out of 47 candidates. A jury of national and international experts, selected for their experience and commitment to the development of blockchain technology, carried out the process of selecting the finalists and winners, and Alastria members were also able to vote.

"I would like to congratulate the winners and finalists of this edition of Alastria's 'Blockchain Awards'. These projects are an example of the incredible talent and innovation we have in the ecosystem, and how blockchain technology is being integrated into the productive fabric of our country," said Miguel Ángel Domínguez, President of Alastria.

"We are seeing blockchain applications transforming sectors as diverse as the automotive, real estate or financial sectors, where new opportunities are emerging as traditional finance merges with decentralized finance. In addition, digital identities for students and the promotion of the "Circular Economy" reflect how blockchains solve real problems and promote sustainability. These awards show that blockchain can be a key tool to promote economic growth and a competitive advantage for Spain.

The Alastria Blockchain Awards are an honorary distinction, and aim to recognize and give visibility to the contribution that the awarded projects are making to the adoption of blockchain technology. This second edition is promoted by Arsys, S&M Services, Hopla and Cleardent.

Winners of the 2024 edition

The award for the best blockchain project entitled "Decentralized Digital Identity" went to Digital Academic Credentials (Polytechnic University of Madrid), which develops sovereign and verifiable digital identities for the academic field. The creation of sovereign digital identities allows students to manage their academic credentials in a secure and verifiable way, through blockchain. This solution, promoted by eleven Spanish universities, protects the privacy and integrity of academic data, reducing fraud and optimizing administration. The credentials currently included in the system are the "Certificate of Possession of a University Degree" and the "Certificate of Possession of a Student Card". The project addresses identity theft and data protection in the academic environment, providing verifiable credentials and student cards. With a solution that complies with GDPR and eIDAS 2 regulations, these credentials can be used in different systems thanks to their interoperability.

Onyze, a next-generation digital asset custody and exchange project, has been awarded the Best Blockchain Project for Tokenization and Digital Assets category. Registered in Spain and Andorra, Onyze offers B2B solutions that guarantee regulatory compliance and maximum security, with a scalable infrastructure. It facilitates the integration of digital assets for banks, managers and fintechs, and offers a plug-and-play solution that ensures asset custody and operations, regulatory compliance and cold storage security, with a multi-cluster system.

In the category of best blockchain project for industrial applications, the award went to Pasaporte Digital de Baterías - Vehículo 4.0 (Xpander by Teknia). This applies blockchain to the traceability of electric vehicle batteries. The project aims to improve the traceability and sustainability of electric car batteries throughout the value chain, creating a digital product passport. The platform uses blockchain to store information about the battery, from mineral extraction to recycling, ensuring that the data is available to all actors in the chain. Ford is currently using it.

Metrovacesa Space (Metrovacesa), an immersive virtual space for exploring and booking homes, is the best blockchain project in Web3. Through an avatar, it allows users to discover Metrovacesa promotions and make pre-bookings of homes using BIZUM, a digital currency, Apple Pay or Google Pay. It also offers spaces to support digital art and young entrepreneurs in the Proptech sector.

Finally, the award for best blockchain project in Sustainability went to CircularTrust (Blue Room Innovation), a decentralized ecosystem to support sustainability and the circular economy, which allows the creation of digital product passports to promote traceability, sustainability and transparency in the supply chain. Using decentralized digital identities and verifiable credentials, the ecosystem improves operational efficiency and facilitates collaboration between different actors, promoting sustainability in sectors such as steel, recycling, textiles and construction. This project has the support of large corporations and entities such as Ecoembes, Celsa Group or Adalmo.

This year's jury is made up of Luis Garvía, Alfredo Muñoz, Mariana de la Roche, Ilan Meléndez and Sandra Adrián.
