Built-in batteries have won over keyboards, mice, and other devices that used batteries before, but because they're actually built-in, chargers are needed to get a few more hours of use. For the iPhone XS, iPhone XR and iPhone 11, the company released its Smart Battery Case, a kind of silicone case with a built-in battery that offered some "smart" features thanks to its integration with iOS, especially since iOS 12, and charge management with its function.

With the arrival of MagSafe on the iPhone 12, new accessories have also been created: cards for convenient storage from cases, holders of all kinds (such as the Belkin Boost Charge Pro that we reviewed a few weeks ago) and, of course, batteries. Who hasn't carried an external phone battery and hated having to wrap their iPhone and battery around the Lightning cable while charging? To solve this problem, magnetic attachment is much more convenient, especially when using automatic magnet alignment. Curiously, it was compatible MagSafe batteries from third-party brands that appeared, while Apple was preparing its own version.

Apple MagSafe battery design

The physical appearance of Apple's MagSafe battery tries to be completely minimalistic, and is only available in white and in one size, which fits all iPhones on the market. Except for its dimensions (6.4 cm wide x 9.5 cm high x 1 cm thick), the thickness mimics that of other MagSafe branded accessories, such as the case, and they are the same size.

The magnetic attachment of this battery to the iPhone is especially noticeable in the Pro Max model, which increases by more than 330 grams and is heavier to hold with one hand, although it is still perfectly usable (of course, it is not so convenient without a battery). Not recommended for small hands.

In the other models, the battery is noticeable in weight, but it is not as apparent a change as in the older model. The feel of the MagSafe battery helps with that: it's made of a plastic material, which makes for a nice grip in the hand (it's a bit rough) and feels incredibly durable.
