After an incredible launch event where we got to know the impressive Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro and 13 Lite, as well as various mobility devices and wearables, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has announced the launch of the augmented reality car.
With the new Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Discovery Edition, the company is entering this world, which is still taking its first steps, but which is already showing the way, and this prototype shows that it is possible to create a compact and premium design, the latest technology in eye screens.
Wireless, gesture and featherweight
These Xiaomi augmented reality glasses are, as we said, a prototype, and therefore will not be available for sale, but taking advantage of the MWC 2023 framework, the world's largest mobile technology conference held in Barcelona, the company has decided to share its vision of augmented reality.
They weigh only 126 grams and are wireless: all communication between the glasses is done via Bluetooth with the mobile phone, without relying on external equipment, as is usually the case. In addition, its latency (how long the information takes from the cell phone to the glasses) is 3 milliseconds, much lower than the usual one, which is around 50 milliseconds.
According to Xiaomi, in order for a user not to distinguish between reality and digital, hard work must be done on the screens: two MicroOLED panels that achieve a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, similar to a mid-range smartphone.
Thanks to the innovative microgesture interaction system, you can also manipulate augmented reality with one hand, as the glasses will detect your index finger and thumb and, depending on their position, will serve as a directional strip to control the glasses.
Xiaomi's glasses are compatible with many apps in the company's ecosystem, such as Mi Share. This, in particular, allows content to be viewed live in augmented reality glasses, and TikTok or YouTube can work to improve the angles of their videos.
At the moment, these Xiaomi augmented reality glasses are compatible with Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces, OpenXR and Microsoft's MRTK development framework. The brand wanted to make it clear that they want to bring augmented reality closer to the public as soon as possible, which is why they will have close cooperation with all platforms.
