Focus on the electrical sector
The new company focuses on companies in the electrical sector, mainly manufacturers of components and systems, and, in general, manufacturers of equipment for critical sectors; that is, those who provide essential services and who may be more vulnerable to cyber attack, and who are therefore more sensitive to the pioneering offer proposed by Orbike. In the medium term, it plans to expand into industrial goods, transportation, machine tools and cyber security products companies.
A trusted local partner
In recent years, industrial cyber security has been one of Ikerlan's priority areas of work, within the EIKT - Electronics, Information and Communication Technologies line of specialization. It has a team of 50 people highly specialized in cyber security, and an annual turnover of around 4 million euros. Half of them are contracts with companies.
In the last three years, the volume of the field has doubled, as the needs of companies have grown. Ikerlan is also a member of the BCSC (Basque Cybersecurity Center) and works closely with ZIUR (Gipuzkoa Industrial Cybersecurity Center) to offer support to industrial companies.
Internationally, Ikerlan is a member of ECSO (European Cyber Security Organization), and cooperates with the German TÜV Rheinland certification (IEC 62443-4-1) and ISA Secure (the American organization that defines cyber security standards for electronics). All these partnerships are in the field of cyber security of industrial products.
Ion Etxeberria, CEO of Ikerlan, explained that "we have identified a need in the market, and we want to take advantage of that with the creation of Orbik Cybersecurity. In fact, this will allow manufacturers to secure their electronic products, assessing their robustness against cyber attacks and improving their protection against them, allowing the market to offer more cyber-secure products and positioning them in a distinctive way from their competition, anticipating the moment when certifications will be mandatory".
In fact, the EU is promoting the creation of cyber security schemes for economic sectors, through the so-called Cyber-security Act. Today, assessment and certification schemes are carried out voluntarily by companies. However, within two years, the mandatory Cyber Resilience Act regulations will come into force. For this reason, it is important for many companies to be prepared in advance in all processes.
Seventh company in the world with an accredited cyber security laboratory
Today, and in a first phase, Orbik Ikerlan will be located in the newly inaugurated facilities of the Digilab laboratory in Arrasat (Gipuzkoa), the most advanced laboratory of digital technologies in the State. In addition, in 2023, Digilab will be the first industrial cyber security laboratory accredited by ENAC, the Spanish National Accreditation Organization, in accordance with the UNE 17025 standard.
Thus, Ikerlan will be the seventh company in the world and the first in the State, according to a report published by the North American agency ISA SECURE, with an accredited cyber security laboratory.
