This is the company that has contributed to a more digital, inclusive and sustainable country

The telecommunications company remains committed to digitising the country, where it has already invested more than EUR 35.5 billion since 1998. And what remains…

Orange’s commitment to the country’s progress remains intact. Today, its fiber deployment reaches almost 17 million homes and businesses, and its 5G coverage reaches 80% of the population.

In 1998, Spain (and the world) were very different from what they are today. In the year that Titanic made history at the Oscars with 11 statuettes, in our country it was still being paid in pesetas. Across the Atlantic, in the United States, two young engineers -- Sergey Brin and Larry Page -- launched a website called Google. The DVD replaced the old VHS videos forever and, 400 kilometres away from Earth, the International Space Station began operating.

That same year, the sale of mobile phones skyrocketed to 162,900 units across the globe, a record number. And a telecommunications company still unknown in Spain, Orange, started operating on Spanish soil. It is now 25 years, a quarter century in which the operator has contributed to the digitisation and modernisation of Spain through an investment of over EUR 35.5 billion.

Orange’s commitment to the country’s progress remains intact. Over the past five years, the company has spent 20% of its annual revenue on improving its innovation plans and expanding its infrastructure. Data support this effort. Today, its fiber deployment reaches almost 17 million homes and businesses, and its 5G coverage reaches 80% of the population. In fact, it has become the first Spanish operator to launch the 5G+ network. This technology, which already has access to 30% of the territory, offers greater benefits: better indoor coverage, longer phone battery life and security, less latency…

All these actions demonstrate Orange’s contribution to the digital transformation of society and its productive fabric, as well as to people, who give every meaning to technology. One example is the recent inauguration of the Orange Digital Center in Madrid. The Orange Foundation, which also celebrates its silver wedding in Spain this year, is the driving force of this center. It is designed to reduce the digital divide in groups at risk of exclusion: from young people with adaptation difficulties to women in precarious situations and people with autism.
