The training is not fully adapted to the needs of the companies. This year the most requested profile is Vocational Education, which is close to 40% of the total and then there is the university profile, which is around 35%. The remaining 25% "basic studies that do not require a degree are sufficient. It's something that is almost impossible to predict without studying", explains Carlos Pereda.
According to Confebask, this circumstance reveals the "importance" of studies, both vocational training and university, to get a job. This is the axis that Basque employers must influence, to make it easier for companies to find the professional profiles they are looking for. Since the Confebask (employability) survey began in 2016, the difficulties in finding workers "have changed, but with a constant upward trend", stated the Employment Manager of the Basque employer. As a novelty of this year's strong employment growth, "it is surprising that the demand for so many unqualified technical workers is higher than in other years". They are workers related to logistics and transport, warehouse workers or dispatchers. There is also a higher level of contracting in construction, linked to small jobs that do not require "important qualifications" and which later gives the opportunity to learn some more complex works.
Great dynamism can be felt in the hospitality industry as well. A sector with two faces. "It is not the same to work in a three-Michelin star restaurant than in the bar in the neighborhood. And in the case of large restaurants or large hotels, it is difficult to find highly qualified employees", he argued, returning. the need for training and difficulties in finding workers.
Regarding the economic situation, Confebask expects that "the rest of the year will also be good in the field of employment with the uncertainty of the evolution of 2023".
