Structural change
"Everything that happens is related to the modernization of our economy. The most sought-after branch of the university is computer engineering. Everything is changing and, above all, it is also happening in the service sector", argued Carlos Cepeda.
The Confebasque representative recalled that "the main lesson of the pandemic" in the economic field is that "it is essential to have a computer to connect". To this must be added the "problems of server hijacking and cyber security in general" in companies. Workers are needed in this field and the labor market sometimes covers demand at a lower rate than companies need. In addition, there are other gaps in the industrial sector: electricity, electronics, machinery installation and maintenance. These are activities that are losing skilled labor and are not exactly the cards most young people play when entering the labor market.
In general, companies want to hire "for production (technicians and operators), engineering, technical-scientific profiles and also for commercial sales". "They are the most requested positions in the context of the year of economic recovery, where the GDP will probably reach 4.5% at the end of the year and people are needed to do this work", emphasizes Pereda.
It is difficult to find some profiles, but not impossible: "Otherwise we would not be at the top of the employment period and with an unemployment rate close to 8%. However, it is worth noting that companies are having difficulty finding the people they need for their production when 111,000 are unemployed in the Professions. This should make us think. there is disagreement."
